Lucille McCrea, longtime resident of Rough and Ready, rings the bell that was given to the town in the early 1950s. Dick West Construction put the bell up this week at McCrea’s residence on the east end of town.

The bell had been at a grocery store that once stood on the west end of town when Highway 20 went through there. McCrea and her late husband bought the store, and kept the bell on behalf off the town after the store was closed many years ago.
