Revamped Taco Bell set to open July 9

The Taco Bell in the Glenbrook Basin is expected to more closely reflect Nevada County historic architecture when it reopens, according to franchisee Gary Lyon.

The store will also be larger, Lyon said.

“Our target date is July 9,” Lyon said Tuesday. “It will have a miner’s motif and be just about the same thing, just a little bigger and a little taller.”

The 2,500 square-foot building is at Maltman Drive and Olympia Park Road in Grass Valley adjacent to the Golden Center Freeway. It will have a false second story to hide its roof hardware and to fulfill the design requirements of the City of Grass Valley, Lyon said.

“We wanted to hide that stuff, and they didn’t want a flat roof,” Lyon said.

The restaurant will have a larger kitchen and lobby than the previous one, and will retain its drive-up window service. The previous restaurant, in the corporation’s trademark mission style, was leveled in mid-March.
