People who enjoy working with the public are needed to assist the local police department in a variety of tasks. Home vacation checks, court runs, foot and auto patrol, and help with special events are just examples of the variety this volunteer position offers.

Assistance Specialists

Provide information, referrals and assistance to people of all ages with the use of a database of Nevada County resources. Volunteers needed to be able to communicate well over the phone, be active listeners, think on their feet and be experienced personal computer operators.

Classroom Aides

Volunteers are needed to work one-on-one with first-grade students in the Penn Valley area.

Chairperson for

Santa Paws

A volunteer chairperson is needed to organize AnimalSave’s annual holiday auction. The chairperson would be in charge of team leader meetings, coordinate volunteers, and secure underwriting and donations for the event.


The home-delivered meals program urgently needs drivers. Two hours once a week can help to keep this program on the road. Drivers are also needed to assist in transporting clients to appointments, shopping and other destinations.

Internet Support

A volunteer is needed to maintain and update the Web site for a local public television station. This assignment can be done from your own home.

An hour a week of your time can make a difference in the life of a neighbor, who has become isolated due to the loss of a loved one or because they can no longer drive. A social visit of an hour a week can help prevent loneliness and depression. Grass Valley and Lake of the Pines volunteers are especially needed.


The Elder-Care Providers Coalition is in need of a secretary to take minutes at their monthly meeting held at noon on the second Tuesday of each month.
