With Democratic Sen. John Kerry two for two in the early presidential primaries, The Union asked area residents Wednesday whether they thought Democrats were uniting behind Kerry. If so, is that a good thing?

“I think it’s fine because any of the Democrats would be better than the incumbent.”

Suzanne Micoleau, 49

Nevada City, Democrat

“It’s an interesting thing because he’s certainly more acceptable to the general public. Kerry is probably a pretty good choice.”

Kathryn Copeland

Penn Valley, Republican

“I liked Howard Dean because he got people fired up. As far as electability, I think it’s going to be John Kerry.”

Shana Parker, 37

Grass Valley, Democrat

“He wouldn’t win. They have to back someone who stands a chance at winning.”

Jordan Witkof, 23

Auburn, Libertarian

“I don’t think they’re backing anybody. It seems like a good idea (to back Kerry).”

Michael Maye, 47

Grass Valley, Independent
