Requests for absentee ballots due

Today is the deadline to apply for absentee ballots through the mail for the March 5 primary.

Applications must be received at the Nevada County Elections Office by 5 p.m.

Postmarks don’t qualify, so applications must be hand-delivered or faxed to the office at 265-7159 by 5 p.m. The office is at the HEW Building, 10433 Willow Valley Road, Suite E, Nevada City.

Voters who don’t have a pre-printed absentee ballot application can fax a letter with the request, “I want an absentee ballot for the March 5 election.”

The fax must include the voter’s name, signature, residence address and the address to which the voter wants the ballot mailed.
