Come Nov. 7 and 8 at 7 p.m. the people of Nevada and Placer Counties are in for a treat. A new musical entitled “A Land Such As This,” written by Annette Udall, directed by Dana Sanders and Richanne Baldridge, and produced by Joyce Roskelley, will be performed by the youth of these counties at the Auburn California Stake Center, 1255 Bell Road in Auburn. You will not want to miss this wonderful production. There will be 250 youth in the production singing and dancing.

Victoria Sanders, who plays Lis in the production, lives in Auburn and has been in many plays including Shakespeare as well as many musicals. She also helps her mother direct plays. Victoria is home schooled, works on a farm and at a movie theater. Her hobbies include soccer and reading.

Trevor Humpherys, another cast member will be playing Will Morten. Trevor lives in Nevada City and is a talented young man. He plays the piano, the recorder and has sung at many events. Trevor is twelve years old and will be in 6th grade at Seven Hills School. This will be Trevor’s first performance as an actor

Nevada City United Methodist Church

Twin Cities Church

Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

If you want to feel good and start off your week with some inspiring messages, visit the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Aug. 17 at 9 or 11 a.m. or 1 p.m. at the Nevada City Chapel, 615 Hollow Way. The topics will be “Spiritual Rebirth and Gifts of the Spirit.” The guest speakers representing President Rod Brower can also be heard in the LDS churches in Colfax and Auburn. Unity in the Gold Country

Holy Wisdom Church

Pray Nevada County

Pray Nevada County, seeking God on behalf of our communities, is open to all Christians. Pray Nevada County meets each Tuesday from noon to 1 p.m. to pray for our county governments and services, schools and families, businesses, media, churches and para church ministries. Since August 1997, 15 to 25 people from eight to 12 congregations have met each week to pray for our communities.

Healing Rooms of Nevada County

The Healing Rooms of Nevada County are open. We pray for the healing for the body, soul and spirit. Everyone is welcome whether they attend church or not. We meet in the Chapel at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital, from 7 to 9 p.m. every Thursday. The chapel is located in the main lobby of the hospital. There is no fee and no reservation is necessary.

Grass Valley’s next meeting is Thursday, Aug. 14 at 9:45 a.m. Pastor Joy Gartman of Trinity Life Church, Yuba City, will be the speaker. First Baptist Church of Grass Valley

Calvary Bible Church

Chuck and Doni Antone made many friends while living here from 1964 until 1981, when they sold their businesses and moved to Honolulu to serve with Waikiki Beach Chaplaincy, an evangelistic ministry. Later they started an extension to that ministry where Chuck became the Pastor/Director of the Kona Coast Chaplaincy, on the Big Island of Hawaii. Doni serves with him as administrator.

Truth Worship Center

“The Lord Jesus Christ is a miracle working God” is the theme for services this Sunday at Truth Worship Center, located across from Nevada Union High School. Unitarian Universalist Community of the Mountains

“Leadership, Change and Harmony.” Taking inspiration from Victor Frankl, Gandhi, Jesus, Clara Barton and ourselves, we learn from each other how best to lead, to change and to find the real meaning of our community. Karen Melander-Magoon, who comes from a background of singing major roles in opera, teaching, writing, and learning, is completing her doctorate in ministry at San Francisco Theological Seminary. She offers her thoughts by weaving songs of her own into her “sermon” as well as a song by Hugo Wolf on learning to find harmony.
