Red flag fire watch today through Thursday

A windy front blowing in today with low humidities has caused a red flag fire watch alert to be issued through at least Thursday afternoon for the foothills of Nevada County.

The National Weather Service in Sacramento said the front will bring winds of 15 to 30 mph through Thursday, gusting to 40 mph. Daytime humidities are expected to be in the teens or single digits through Thursday, adding to the fire danger.

The conditions could linger in western Nevada County overnight Thursday into Friday morning, the National Weather Service said.

Today’s high is expected to be 76, with 78 Wednesday as the front passes through, climbing back into the 80s Thursday afternoon and through the weekend.

Nighttime lows in the 40s are predicted tonight and Wednesday, rising into the 50s Thursday through Sunday.

No rain or thunderstorms have been predicted through Sunday, with mostly sunny skies expected.
