Red flag fire watch through Thursday

A windy front expected to roll in today has created red flag fire watch conditions through at least Thursday afternoon for the foothills of Nevada County.

The National Weather Service in Sacramento this morning said the front will bring winds of 15 to 30 mph today through Thursday, gusting to 40 mph.

Daytime humidities are expected to be in the teens or single digits through Thursday, adding to the fire danger.

The conditions could linger in western Nevada County overnight Thursday into Friday morning, the National Weather Service said.

High temperatures are expected in the mid-70s today and Wednesday as the front passes through, climbing back into the 80s Thursday afternoon and through the weekend.

Nighttime lows will be in the 40s tonight and Wednesday, rising back into the 50s Thursday through Sunday.

No rain or thunderstorms have been predicted through Sunday, with mostly sunny skies expected.
