Red flag fire warning

A red flag fire warning has been issued for the Northern Sierra foothills through 8 a.m. Friday.

Gusting winds, heat and low humidity will combine today to increase the danger of fire, according to the National Weather Service in Sacramento.

Smoke from the numerous fires in the north state have been trapped by a light offshore airflow and continue to plague western Nevada County, with visibility down to 1/2 mile in spots.

Residents are urged to stay inside with air conditioning as heavy smoke and 100 degree temperatures are possible throughout the day. The weather service said this morning the smoke will probably linger into the weekend.
