Recruit new business

I have been following the debate on big-box stores, and I have to admit I agree with both sides. As much as I love our downtown area, I cannot afford to shop there. That leaves me with Pennys and Kmart. I, for one, would like another choice, not Walmart.

Why can’t our elected city and county officials do some active recruitment of some retail businesses that would fit our community? There are also many empty buildings from failed business.

Again, why can’t the owners of these buildings and our elected officials get together and encourage new businesses, retail, wholesale and light manufacturing?

With the numbers of unemployed (myself included) in this area, there is a whole workforce just waiting for and wanting work. Stop being scared of growth, it’s good for all of us. We cannot survive on tourism alone.
