Record Connection up for sale

Twenty-two years after selling its first CD, Record Connection is up for sale for $550,00, according to its owner.

“Being in retail is demanding,” owner John Hess stated. “Every holiday retail is open, so you don’t get to spend a lot of time with family.”

Hess is hopeful that with retirement, he will be able to enjoy the laughter of his three young grandchildren and pursue some business ventures.

“We own the building that Record Connection is in,” Hess said. “I have various real-estate interests and am looking forward to exploring them.”

Although he is aware of the decline in music purchased at retail stores, Hess maintains that the reason behind the sale is not because of a lack of business.

“Online definitely has impacted the music industry,” Hess lamented. “We’ve reinvented ourselves a number of times, and we’ve supplemented the drop in sales in music with our electronics department. We’ve positioned ourselves in such a way that the music decline wouldn’t cause us to close our doors.”

Hess is hopeful about finding a buyer to carry on his tradition of “service with a smile.”

“I’m anticipating trying to sell it to someone else,” Hess said. “I don’t have any intention of closing the store.”
