Both Democrat Charlie Brown and Republican Tom McClintock came “up the hill” to walk, not ride, in Sunday’s Constitution Day Parade in Nevada City. The two men, dressed in similar duds, shook hands with people along the parade route. McClintock and Brown are running for the 4th District Congressional seat being vacated by John Doolittle. Meanwhile, some local GOP faithful, including Sue Horne, carpooled “over the hill” this weekend to Carson City to watch Sarah Palin make her first solo campaign stop in the lower 48. Horne walked the Constitution Day parade route with a pink hat signed by Palin, whom she met. Test pilot Chuck Yeager of Grass Valley also saw Palin’s speech.

Next time you run into Nevada City police Chief Lou Trovato, you may need a moment to recognize him.

Lou’s wife, Waynette, is losing her hair due to chemotherapy, so Lou has shaved his head.

“(Waynette) was diagnosed with breast cancer,” Lou says. “She had an operation and is undergoing chemotherapy every 21 days.

“She’s a little tired, but she’s doing fine.”

Lou and Waynette have been married for 22 years, Lou adds.
