The folks at AnimalSave are inviting everyone to their tenth annual Santa Paws Silent Auction and Wine Tasting.

Executive Director Carolyn Niehaus wants readers to know:

“The event features wine tasting from six local wineries, a silent auction, hors d’oeuvres and desserts, a no-host bar and live music. Proceeds from this event support AnimalSave’s many important programs that transform the lives of dogs and cats.

“We appreciate the support we have received from our auction sponsors. Our ‘Grand Paws’ sponsors include The Union and Dr. Mimi Vishoot and Steve Nicholson of Pleasant Valley Veterinary Center.”

It’s from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, with winetasting from 6 to 7:30 p.m., at Miners Foundry Cultural Center, 325 Spring St., Nevada City.

Auction Items include a family pass to Disneyland; restaurant and hotel packages; whale-watching trips; fabulous local shopping sprees; spa, beauty and health services; nights at bed-and-breakfast inns; casino packages; golf passes; art and jewelry.

For pets, items will include animal supplies, feed, veterinary services, dog training, pet sitting and body work.

Participating wineries are Avanguardia Wines, Coufos Cellars, Lucchesi Vineyards, Nevada City Winery, Pilot Peak Vineyard and Solune Winegrowers.

Hors d’oeuvres will be created by local epicurean Antonio Ayestaran (yummy!) and entertainment will be by pianist Paul Dettner.

Tickets are $25, which includes a commemorative wine glass.

Advance tickets are at AnimalSave Thrift and Treasures in Grass Valley, BriarPatch Co-op Market in Grass Valley, and Harmony Books in Nevada City. They will also be available at the Miners Foundry the evening of the event.

AnimalSave is at 520 E. Main St., Grass Valley. Visit or call (530) 271-7071 ext. 201 for more information.

Readers’ Corner is compiled by The Union staff. To submit items, e-mail them to, and put “RC” and your topic in the subject line, or call (530) 477-4230.
