PUBLICIST NEEDED

TO PROMOTE

READING PROGRAM

Are you a book lover who passionately believes young people should spend more time reading than watching TV or surfing the Net? Nevada County Reads, a countywide reading program, needs a publicist to market and promote its numerous events.

For the past four years, Nevada County Reads – a collaboration between the Nevada County Superintendent of Schools Office, the Nevada County library and community members – has featured a book each year and promoted its perusal in the community.

If you’re interested in the publicist position, contact Mary Anne Trygg, Nevada County librarian, at 265-7078.

SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL CUB SCOUTS

Rich Bodine is the new scoutmaster for Pack 23, the Nevada City area Cub Scouts. He wants to remind folks that the Nevada City Lions Club has been a huge supporter of scouting for many years, and their taco booth at the Nevada County Fair is a major source of the Lions’ funding for local scouts and other nonprofits.

“The Lions Club taco booth is doing a kid’s meal with a cheese quesadilla and milk,” Rich says. “It may be the only kid’s meal, and it may be the only meal with milk.”

The booth is at the beginning of Treat Street – get your calcium fix!

“We use the funds for awards for the boys and for subsidizing scouting activities,” Rich adds.

COUNTY OFFERS LOW-COST IMMUNIZATION

The Nevada County Public Health Department is hosting a low cost immunization clinic from 8:30 a.m. to noon Aug. 12 in the parking lot behind Grass Valley Veteran’s Memorial Building on 255 South Auburn Street. Immunization clinics are also held from 1 to 4 p.m. every Thursday at the same location.

For more information, call 265-1450.
