Re: The Union article, June 17

We are deeply grieved that Nevada City Chamber of Commerce will spend $1,000 to advertise in a leading gay and lesbian magazine promoting Nevada City as a destination for same-sex marriage.

California voters have already made the decision to try to keep marriage between a man and woman. This will not be decided in full until the November election; so these gay marriages may not even be legal.

In the over 50 years we have loved this area it has always been known as a beautiful historic Gold Rush town. Everyone has been welcome here, it’s a free country. Yet it seems unwise indeed to cater to something so deeply controversial that will change how many will feel about the town.

The chamber may be following the money trail but we can’t help but wonder, what other organizations will pressure funds from them to promote their lifestyle choices.

We personally will keep our recreational spending in Grass Valley.
