Re Other voices on Three R’s

Who is this character Tom DeChaine? (“Obama ‘ignores’ our Founding Fathers’ three R’s,” Other Voices, The Union, July 25). Who is he to declare that we should apply reason and rationality when asserting our rights as citizens of this country? His remarks are almost heresy in our increasingly liberal society of today.

When we see more of what this country stands for drifting away with environmentalists convincing Congress that it would be better to do without oil than drill for it in our backyard or the “Star Spangled Banner” being sung in Spanish, his remarks are welcome.

In a few short paragraphs, he has defined what we should be fighting for. He has summed up in simple language what values we should be looking for in our political candidates. Why don’t we hear any of our candidates or elected members of Congress speaking in these terms? Why can’t Tom DeChaine apply his thinking in an elected office? Probably because he would be over-qualified as a politician.

This is a good read. It deserves national publication. But then again, who would listen?
