PV Rodeo Supports Youth Ag at the County Fair

The Penn Valley Community Rodeo Association is a non-profit organization with emphasis on celebrating and maintaining Nevada County’s great Western heritage, as well as supporting local ag endeavors.

With this in mind the PVCRA board of directors voted again this year to allocate funds for “Bump Ups” at the Nevada County Fair Junior Livestock Auction.

In 2015 board member John Favetti was able to place bumps on 11 animals owned by youth exhibitors, who wrote to the rodeo association asking for support.

According to Favetti, who was asked by the board to participate in the auction “ by placing bump-ups, we were able to support many more kids than we could have if we had just purchased on animal at the auction.”

Bump-ups are simply placing a flat fee or additional percentage on top of the winning bid for an animal in the auction. Members of PVCRA who have children auctioning at the fair are encouraged to submit a letter of request and introduction about their project prior to the fair.

As well as awarding two scholarships each year, the Penn Valley Rodeo supports many charitable groups in the community and the board of directors unanimously voted to support the junior livestock auction again.
