Purses power program at The Friendship Club

The Union staff

The Friendship Club’s seventh annual Power of the Purse drew nearly 150 women and men to the Holiday Inn Express in Grass Valley on Thursday.

The Power of the Purse is designed to inform, educate, and engage the community about the important work of The Friendship Club and to seek financial investment and volunteer support in the program. Table captains were recruited to fill tables, and the group raffled 19 purses donated by local merchants.

Special guest presenters included Jeff Ackerman, publisher of The Union, Kathy Medeiros, CEO of Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital, and Judy Hess of Citizens Bank. Guests learned of the impact of The Friendship Club through presentations by its Executive Director Jennifer Singer, graduate Chelsea Forkner and grandmother Janice O’Brien.

The day started with a brief video, illustrating the importance and unique reasons to invest in programs benefiting women and girls.
