Public gets chance to comment on Dollar General project this Thursday

The public will get the chance on Thursday to give its opinion on a proposal to build three Dollar General stores in Nevada County.

The Planning Commission will meet at 1:30 p.m. in the Eric Rood Administrative Center, 950 Maidu Ave. The commission will take no action at the meeting, and instead will receive only feedback about the projects at 10166 Alta Sierra Drive, 12345 Rough and Ready Highway and 17652 Penn Valley Drive.

The public comment is part of the scoping for an environmental impact report approved in December. The EIR is expected to take six to 10 months.

The stores drew controversy last year from residents across the county, some of whom say the stores don’t conform with their area’s rural atmosphere.

The store’s developer has said the business would provide household items quickly and conveniently.
