Preschool tagged with profanity

In the 20 years Kathleen Reiswig has owned Monalee’s Preschool on Ridge Road, she never thought she’d have to deal with profanity spray-painted in the children’s playground.

She spent Friday morning cleaning up profanity scrawled in black spray paint across a picnic table where her preschoolers eat their lunch.

“I’ve never had anything like this before,” she said. “It’s disturbing.”

She said the younger preschool-aged children don’t know what the spray-painted words mean, but the older kids in her afternoon kindergarten program can read.

Sometime late Thursday night or early Friday morning, she said, vandals broke into the yard and marked up the table and a fiberglass playboat with more obscenities.

“It’s a preschool,” she said. “I don’t understand.”

Last Friday, she said, she woke up in the living quarters she shares with her family above the preschool and went into the yard to find an anarchy symbol spraypainted in black on a wooden pillar near a tire swing.

The name of the band “AFI” was also spray-painted on another table.

Two security guards from Nevada Union High School inspected the vandalism and a Nevada County Sheriff’s deputy took a report.

The vandalism, they told Reiswig, was most likely done by high school students.

“I can’t imagine being so bored that you’d do something like this,” Reiswig said. “I guess some people are into this sort of thing.”
