Power outage leaves Alta Sierra residents in the dark Saturday

A power outage left more than 1,000 customers in the dark Saturday night in southern Grass Valley and Alta Sierra.

The outage, which started shortly before 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, knocked out electricity for 1,334 customers, according to Brandi Ehlers, spokesperson for Pacific Gas and Electric.

The cause was the failure of a capacitor bank, she added.

Workers restored power at 1:05 a.m.

Residents also reported phone outages in the area around the same time.

The phone outage was due to the power outage, said John Britton, spokesman for AT&T. He said he didn’t know how many were affected, but AT&T received 85 trouble complaints.

Phone service was restored Monday afternoon, he added.
