Police blotter: Catphishing victim wants plane ticket back to Maryland

Grass Valley Police Department

Wednesday

7:45 a.m. — A caller from the 100 block of Mill Street reported a man in a sedan possibly smoking marijuana; the caller believed the man was sleeping in the city lot overnight. He could not be located.



8:59 a.m. — A caller from the 400 block of Brighton Street reported a person sleeping in the women’s restroom; he was moving on.

1 p.m. — A caller from the 100 block of Eureka Street reported an employee stealing meds from clients; a person was cited and the meds were returned.




1:17 p.m. — A caller from the 100 block of East Berryhill Drive reported the theft of meds.

2:06 p.m. — A woman from the 600 block of South Auburn Street reported an assault; she did not need medical attention.

2:13 p.m. — A caller from the hospital reported an intoxicated man had crashed his bike and was brought in, then left against advice. He could not be located.

3:26 p.m. — A caller from the 100 block of Neal Street reported two people drinking whiskey and being profane outside a business; they could not be located.

4:25 p.m. — A caller from the 100 block of Winchester Street reported the theft of a Honda Accord with a rusted hood.

4:27 p.m. — A caller from Highway 49 and South Auburn Street reported a panhandler.

4:45 p.m. — A caller from the 100 block of Mill Street reported three men broke into a Dumpster. A man was arrested on suspicion of violating post-release community supervision.

6:33 p.m. — A caller from the 600 block of Sutton Way reported a man trying to abandon dogs in a parking lot; he could not be located.

7:11 p.m. — A caller from a business in the 200 block of Sierra College Drive reported a counterfeit $100 bill.

Wednesday

8:52 a.m. — A caller from the 10000 block of Cement Hill Road reported a rabid skunk.

10:55 a.m. — A man from Dog Bar and Mt. Olive roads reported being in a traffic accident and needing medical attention. Two people were taken to Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital with moderate injuries, including reported rib fractures.

12:30 p.m. — A caller from the 10000 block of Alta Street reported pit bulls that were frequently at large.

12:34 p.m. — A caller from the 12000 block of Elnora Drive reported a man passed out in the middle of the road who might be drunk and have fallen off a bicycle.

12:51 p.m. — A caller from East Bennett Road and Lava Rock Avenue reported two men loading a Pelton wheel into a flat-bed truck. The truck was towed and a report was taken.

12:59 p.m. — A woman reported going to a residence in the 13000 block of Dog Bar Road to meet a boyfriend, and was the victim of a possible “catphishing” scheme. She wanted the Sheriff’s Office to buy her a plane ticket back to Maryland and was advised that was not a service provided by NCSO.

1 p.m. — A caller from the 16000 block of Highway 174 reported trying to corral a large black dog running in and out of the roadway, pulling into a ditch and getting stuck. The dog was gone and the driver could not be located.

1:44 p.m. — A woman from the 12000 block of Crescent Drive reported dogs chasing her chickens.

2:18 p.m. — A caller from Highway 20 reported a vehicle spinout.

2:20 p.m. — A caller from Perimeter Road and Big Spring Drive reported a cow with two legs stuck in a cattle guard, accompanied by a calf. The cow was freed.

4:24 p.m. — A caller from the 25000 block of Table Meadow Road reported identity theft.

5:09 p.m. — A caller from the 10000 block of Combie Road reported two men drinking beer and urinating on a tree. They had backpacks and went into the woods.

6:20 p.m. — A caller from the 11000 block of Newtown Road reported a scam phone call.

6:24 p.m. — A woman from the 10000 block of Welsh Lane reported frequent encounters with a rabid cat, which has charged her and bitten her.

7:18 p.m. — A caller from Torrey Pines Drive reported a vehicle hit a pole and power lines were down. Another caller reported a transformed had blown.

7:13 a.m. — A caller from the 10000 block of Hard Rock Road reported a power pole was sparking.

8:42 a.m. — A caller from the 300 block of Railroad Avenue reported a transient sleeping under a deck, who was warned.

11:57 a.m. — A caller from the 400 block of Calvary Street reported a theft.

6:15 p.m. — A caller from the 200 block of Commercial Street reported two men in a physical fight, who could not be located.
