Lawrence L. Thompson, 51, of Chicago Park was arrested on suspicion of possession of a counterfeit bill at the Cedar Ridge Y Market, 13477 Highway 174, according to the Sheriff’s Office. He was booked into Wayne Brown Correctional Facility on $5,000 bail.




A store worker reported at 11:40 a.m. that Thompson bought cigarettes and soda with a counterfeit $50 bill and received $40.42 in change – before the worker realized the bill was fake. Thompson later returned to the store and was arrested, Undersheriff John Trauner said.

Thompson had no other fake bills, and the Sheriff’s Office followed procedure by calling the Secret Service.

Sunday

A worker at the Nevada City Imaginarium reported at 2:09 p.m. that a replica of a Tyrannosaurus rex claw was stolen. It was found in the building Monday.

Monday

— A resident on the 700 block of South Auburn Street reported at 8:39 a.m. receiving a threatening note with blood on it.

— A resident on the 1200 block of Ridge Road reported at 12:49 p.m. having a 9 mm handgun stolen.
