Police and fire blotter: Sept. 1, 2008

Grass Valley Police Department

Friday

2:21 p.m. – A woman from the 200 block of Sutton Way reported that her brother threatened to kill her. She requested contact with officers regarding the threat. Officers arrested the 41-year-old man on suspicion of threatening to commit a crime and violating his probation. He was booked into the Nevada County jail.



2:21 p.m. – Officers cited and released a juvenile on the 500 block of South Auburn Street for purchasing tobacco. The parents arrived on the scene and were counseled.

4:08 p.m. – A woman from Brunswick Road reported a verbal argument with a man she had honked at. The woman said the man came out of his vehicle and yelled at her and her husband. Officers contacted the woman and found the parties had separated.




5:32 p.m. – A caller from the 300 block of South Auburn Street reported receiving threats from the caller’s sister-in-law. The caller was advised on how to get a restraining order.

7:37 p.m. – A caller from Alta Street reported four people in a bathroom smoking pot. Officers arrested a 39-year-old man on suspicion of possessing and being under the influence of drugs. They also arrested a 28-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman on suspicion of being under the influence of drugs. All three were booked into the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility.

8:04 p.m. – Officers arrested a person at a business on Nevada County Highway on suspicion of driving on a suspended license and booked him into the Nevada County jail.

10:42 p.m. – Officers arrested a man at the intersection of northbound Highway 49 and Gold Flat Road on suspicion of drunken driving and booked him into the Nevada County jail.

Saturday

9:07 a.m. – A woman called from a business on Nevada City Highway reporting that her ex-husband had not brought her child for a scheduled visitation at 8:30 a.m., according to a court order. She said she tried to text message him, but no one had answered her message.

10:14 a.m. – A caller from the 300 block of South Church Street reported that a gold-colored Toyota was vandalized during the night.

3:55 p.m. – Officers cited and released a 20-year-old woman and an 18-year-old man for possessing alcoholic beverages despite being minors.

7:56 p.m. – A woman from the 400 block of Lamarque Court saying that a man was threatening to beat her up. She said he was calling her saying he knew where she was all the time and what she was doing. A report was taken about her receiving the harassing phone calls.

9:00 p.m. – A woman from Mill Street reported a vehicle pulling in and out of her parking lot. Officers contacted the woman and her tenants and advised them about revving engines.

Sunday

12:47 a.m. – Officers arrested a woman for possessing stolen objects.

2:12 a.m. – Officers arrested a 29-year-old man on the 1200 block of La Barr Meadows Road on suspicion of drunken driving and booked him into the Nevada County jail.

Friday

11:56 a.m. – A caller from Lake Forest Drive reported a vehicle accident. Officers went to the site of the accident and found no one was injured. California Highway Patrol also was on the scene.

12:42 p.m. – A caller from the 10000 block of McLand Court reported identity theft.

12:43 p.m. – A man from the 14000 block of Indian Springs Road requested contact with officers regarding theft of money from his bank account.

3:25 p.m. – A caller from the 11000 block of Tensy Lane reported identity theft from a debit card.

3:54 p.m. – A caller from Western Gateway Park reported a young girl swimming in the pond unattended by an adult. The caller said the girl was crying, saying she’s hungry.

5:55 p.m. – A caller from the 11000 block of Banner Lava Cap Road reported a power pole nearby was on fire. The Nevada County Consolidated Fire Department responded to the call and put out the fire.

8:28 p.m. – A caller from the 11000 block of Torrey Pines Drive reported a runaway juvenile. The person called back later to say the juvenile had returned home.

10:09 p.m. – A caller from the 12000 block of McCourtney Road reported a runaway juvenile who was last seen at 3:30 p.m.

Saturday

1:25 a.m. – A woman from the 11000 block of Alta Sierra Drive reported a vehicle stuck in a ditch near her driveway. The woman said no one appeared to be injured on the scene.

7:32 a.m. – A caller from Pleasant Valley Road reported an injured coyote on the road.

9:14 a.m. – A caller from the 10000 block of Kenwood Drive reported vandalism to decorations outside the caller’s house the night before. The caller suspected some teenagers who live nearby.

11:34 a.m. – A caller from the 10000 block of Alta Hill Mine Road reported theft of a laptop, a bag and an external hard drive.

2:38 p.m. – A caller from the 24000 block of Clayton Way reported theft of items from the caller’s residence.

2:52 p.m. – A man from the 16000 block of Dog Bar Road reported that he was riding his bike, when a person tried to run him over.

3:40 p.m. – A woman from the 15000 block of Little Valley Road reported being followed by a vehicle.

6:48 p.m. – A woman from the 21000 block of Oak Ridge Drive reported two wolf-like dogs came on her property and killed her cat. They were now coming after her dog.

11:52 p.m. – A caller from the 15000 block of Washington Road reported a physical fight in front of a hotel involving two men.

Sunday

12:27 a.m. – A caller from the intersection of Lower Colfax Road and Orzalli Road reported a single vehicle traffic accident.

2:19 a.m. – A caller from the 13000 block of Golden Eagle Way reported someone stole his portable toilet. The caller said he suspected his neighbor.

7:59 a.m. – A caller from the 400 block of North Pine Street reported theft of items from the front porch.

FIRE CALLS

The Grass Valley Fire Department responded to 52 calls for service from Aug. 18 to Aug. 26, including those responded to as part of our joint operational relationship with Nevada County Consolidated Fire District and Nevada City Fire Department. The following is a small sample of those calls in more detail:

6:38 p.m. Aug. 18 – GVFD responded to a vehicle accident on South Auburn Street. Firefighters found two vehicles involved. All occupants denied injury after being assessed by emergency personnel. Firefighters assisted with traffic control.

4 a.m. Aug. 23 – GVFD responded to a vehicle accident on Idaho-Maryland Road. Firefighters reported a single vehicle versus a power pole with significant damage and power lines down. Firefighters found a single occupant with significant injuries and extrication required. Fire crews were able to free the victim, who was transported by air ambulance to a nearby trauma center.

10:30 a.m. Aug. 25 – GVFD and NCCFD responded to a possible structure fire on East Main Street. Responders found a commercial building with nothing showing and investigated to find that the occupants reported the smell of smoke. Firefighters searched the building and discovered a faulty light fixture caused the alarm, with no fire present.

3:47 p.m. Aug. 25 – GVFD responded to a reported vegetation fire at the intersection of Highway 20 and Empire Street. Firefighters found a small bark fire being worked on by locals. Firefighters ensured the fire was extinguished and mopped up additional hot spots.
