Pole vs. car crash under investigation

A man was injured when his car smashed into a telephone pole on Idaho-Maryland Road in Grass Valley about 4:05 a.m. Saturday.

Grass Valley Police Sgt. Jason Perry said a city police officer responding to another call came upon a vehicle in the middle of Idaho-Maryland with debris all around it and a severed power pole nearby.

The officer found Kevin Raymond, 18, address unknown, either asleep or unconscious in the driver’s seat, Perry said. Raymond didn’t appear to have major injuries, but emergency medical personnel had him flown by air ambulance to Sutter Roseville Medical Center.

The accident could be alcohol-related and is being investigated, Perry said.
