Platner trip update

Many of you read the article on July 14 regarding Kaity and Daniel Platner. We felt that we should share one of our successes: A man in New York was reading The Union to see how the smoke was, because his daughter lives in Nevada City. This man came across Dave Moller’s article on us and sent us $100. Thanks to this man, and many like him, we now have enough money for round-trip tickets to Tanzania.

Our next step is to find textbooks, art supplies, etc., and bring them with us for the students at Ruaha Secondary School. For this purpose, we have put together a raffle, which, thanks to the generosity of Nevada County businesses, has more that 35 prizes. Tickets will be available today and Sunday at Paul Law Realty on East Main Street. The drawing will be held on Sunday at noon. Also, a six-family, two-day, benefit yard sale will be held on the same weekend at the same location as the raffle. If you would like more information on the trip or Ruaha visit, or e-mail or
