Planners consider pet adoption center

Dog chalets and cat cabins could be coming soon to a horse pasture on the outskirts of Grass Valley.

Nevada County planning commissioners will consider an application Thursday to build a 19,276-square-foot animal shelter off Rough and Ready Highway next door to the Grass Valley Veterinary Hospital.

ARQ Architects has applied for a permit to build the single story adoption center in two phases on the 8-acre-plus parcel. Plans show separate areas for each species – a dog chalet and two clusters of cat cabins – as well as areas “for prospective pet owners to meet and bond with the animals.”

The meeting will be at 7 p.m. at the Rood Administrative Center, Board of Supervisors chambers, 950 Maidu Ave., Nevada City.
