Piano fund grows to nearly $14K

An auction of items ranging from fine antique silver and art to knick-knacks raised about $7,500 toward the purchase of a concert grand piano for the Center for the Arts, board member Hindi Greenberg said Tuesday.

Greenberg and the support organization Grandes Dames are trying to raise $25,000 to buy a good-quality used piano, enabling the venue to expand its program of entertainment. Funds from the weekend auction and an earlier concert bring the total raised to about $13,500.

Items that did not sell ” including two mink jackets ” will be put out at a garage sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Center for the Arts, 314 W. Main St., Grass Valley, with prices ranging from $1 to a couple hundred dollars, Greenberg added.

Friday’s fete also featured a Marilyn Monroe impersonator; see Wednesday’s edition of The Union for details.
