PG&E goal: Become sustainable energy leader

Officials at Pacific Gas and Electric Co. want to make their utility a leader in sustainable energy by the end of 2014, according to a company report.

Strengthening compliance systems, reducing the operational footprint, fostering clean and renewable energy sources while managing costs, and advocating for strong federal climate change legislation are targets company leaders have set for themselves, according to the 2009 Corporate Responsibility Report.

They also have vowed to improve customer satisfaction by working toward these goals: Improve electric reliability and build a smarter energy grid; offer high-quality service at a reasonable cost; expand customer billing and payment options; and continue to better understand and respond to the unique needs of different customers.

To help implement these and other goals, PG&E created a new position, chief sustainability officer, which reports to the chairman and CEO of PG&E Corp.
