Penn Valley resident dies in fire

A blaze that broke out in Creekside Mobile Home Village Sunday morning claimed the life of a Penn Valley resident, fire officials said.

Penn Valley Fire Protection District firefighters arrived at the mobile home park just after 6:08 a.m. to find a house fully engulfed, said Fire Chief Gene Vander Plaats.

“There was fire seething out of the roof,” he said.

Firefighters quelled the blaze soon after arrival and found one victim deceased inside.

Nevada County Sheriff’s Office deputies were on the scene assisting with the death investigation, Vander Plaats said.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

Penn Valley Fire will investigate the origin of the fire.

Multiple Facebook users have identified the deceased as a 70-year-old woman, but the identity of the victim has not been officially confirmed.
