Penn Valley man sentenced to 24 years for child molestation

A Penn Valley man who had been charged with 36 counts of child molestation was sentenced to 24 years in prison after accepting a plea agreement.

Kirk Iven Goodman, 36, was arrested Nov. 2, 2011, after Nevada County Sheriff’s deputies served a search warrant at his home and seized a number of items for evidence, including computers.

Goodman had pleaded not guilty to sexual intercourse with a child aged 10 or younger, oral copulation with a child aged 10 or younger, continuous sexual abuse of a child younger than 14 and witness intimidation.



In October, Goodman pleaded no contest to one count of continuous sexual abuse of a child younger than 14, four counts of lewd and lascivious acts on a child and one count of intimidating a witness.

On Dec. 14, Goodman was sentenced to 24 years in state prison with credit for 105 days served on the molestation charges. He also was sentenced to one year in county jail with credit for time served on the intimidation charge.




In other court news:

— The preliminary hearing for a Grass Valley man charged with multiple counts of sexually molesting a child has been vacated.

Roger Allen McGlothin, 54, has been charged with three counts of oral copulation with a child younger than 10, one count of continual sexual abuse of a child younger than 14 and three counts of committing a lewd act on a child. The incidents cover a time frame dating back to August 2009 through July 26 of this year, allegedly beginning when the victim was 7 years old.

McGlothin has pleaded not guilty to all the charges. On Dec. 13, he opted against having a hearing into the evidence against him and is set for formal arraignment on the charges Jan. 11. Bail remained set at $500,000.

— After a preliminary hearing Dec. 11, Ryan Paul Christensen, 32, was held to answer on five counts of lewd acts on a child, two counts of continuous sexual abuse of a child, two counts of sodomy with a child 10 or younger, two counts of sexual intercourse with a child 10 or younger and one count of oral copulation with a child 10 or younger.

Christensen also was held to answer on special allegations of use of force or duress, multiple victims and substantial sexual conduct on several of those charges.

The charges cover a time period from 2006 to 2011, and the girls allegedly were as young as 5 years old at the time of some of the incidents. Christensen faces a sentence of to 30 years to life and is set for formal arraignment Dec. 28.
