Parker speaks at Democratic Annual Picnic

The featured speaker at the Democratic Annual Picnic was Chris Parker. He is running of the Board of Equalization in California. One of the many duties of the board is to make sure the tax laws are implemented fairly and equitable.

He come with a strong background in California tax law, having been the tax attorney for the Franchise Tax Board.

“My job as a tax attorney has shown me that there’s a need to fight for fairness, to fight for those who have been left behind in the current economy, and to hold accountable those who try to cheat the system,” Parker said.

He also said that it was important for voters to cast their votes not only for Jerry Brown, but for a team including himself and Betty Yee, who is running for Controller, so that California can continue to move forward on the economic recovery.

Also invited to the picnic were all the local nonpartisan candidates.

Those candidates in attendance were Grass Valley City Council candidates Jim Firth, Terry Lamphier, Jerri Glover and Jason Fouyer; Nevada County Board of Education candidates Shelly Sexton, Bob Altieri, Larry Meek, Jack Meeks and Marianne Slade-Troutman; Penn Valley School District candidate Debra Worth, Nicole Van Vacas Gagnon and Tina Skrukrud, and Superior Court Judge candidate Robert Tice-Raskin.
