Parents can take a peek at science textbooks

Parents of students enrolled in Nevada City schools can check out science textbooks that will be adopted in the near future for kindergarten through fifth grades between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. weekdays until June 12 at the district office on 800 Hoov- er Lane in Nevada City. Board members of the Nevada City School District will hold a public hearing June 17 at the district office to adopt the textbooks, Superintendent Roger Steel said. “We adopt new textbooks every seven years,” Steel said. “Once we decide which ones to adopt, we have to publicize them. Parents can come and take a look.” Textbooks are selected by a Curriculum Coor- dinating Council, consisting of teachers and principals from the district, Steel said. This year, the science textbooks on display have been published by Full Option Science System Delta Education Inc.
