A man was injured and two people were unscathed after a collision on Highway 49 northwest of Nevada City Sunday night.

The injured man, whose identity wasn’t immediately available, went by ambulance to Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital after being extricated from an upside-down Honda sedan in a ditch along Rush Creek, about a mile northwest of Newtown Road.

A supervising spokeswoman at the hospital said he was in stable condition.

At about 5:30 p.m., the Honda driver was headed away from Nevada City and into a curve marked for 30 mph when he crossed the double yellow line, California Highway Patrol Officer John Eimer said.

The Honda’s front left end clipped an oncoming Toyota pickup’s front left end. Both vehicles spun and rolled into the south ditch, Eimer said.

A man and woman from the pickup appeared shaken but unhurt as they watched from the back of a witness’ sport utility vehicle as 49er Fire Protection District crew members pulled the Honda driver out of the ditch.

Traffic was delayed as tow crews retrieved the vehicles. The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office and Sierra Nevada Ambulance also responded.
