Now’s your chance to meet an astronaut

Area youths and adults will get a rare chance to talk to a NASA astronaut as part of the Constitution Day festivities in Nevada City.

NASA astronaut Garrett Reisman will offer two public presentations in Grass Valley, as well as being a grand marshal in the Sept. 14 Constitution Day Parade.

“This is a rare opportunity for the community to meet an astronaut,” said Constitution Day Commission Chairman Dennis Cassella. “It will be something that local youngsters will surely remember for the rest of their lives.”

Reisman, who spent three months aboard the International Space Station and completed a seven-hour spacewalk earlier this year, will appear at the Grass Valley Veterans Memorial Building on Friday, Sept. 12, at 7 p.m., and Saturday, Sept. 13, at 9 a.m.

He will speak for about 45 minutes and answer questions. The free event can handle up to 900 people.

Reisman is the son-in-law of Dave Francis, owner of Las Katarinas mexican restaurant in Nevada City. The event is sponsored by Nevada County, the cities of Grass Valley and Nevada City, American Legion, Frank Gallino Post No. 130 and NASA.
