No remains found in suspected gravesite in Grass Valley

No remains were found at a suspected grave site near a rocky pathway behind Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital in Grass Valley.

Grass Valley Police Department officers investigated the site after a suspected shallow grave was spotted Tuesday.

The police found the area while searching for a parolee who had escaped from the hospital, Capt Rex Marks said Tuesday evening.

“We were looking for the parolee and found this raised area that looks odd,” Marks said.

The state Department of Justice excavated the site, but nothing was found — “just lots of mud,” Marks said Wednesday.

“We don’t know if it possibly was a memorial of some sort,” he said.
