No injuries in Truckee plane crash

TRUCKEE — No one was hurt after a small airplane crashed while attempting to land Tuesday afternoon at Truckee Tahoe Airport, officials said.

According to a press release from Nevada County Sheriff’s Office, the Cirrus SR22T low-wing, single-prop airplane crashed roughly 40 feet from the runway at about 1:25 p.m. The 62-year-old pilot, the lone occupant, was not injured.

The plane, which departed John Wayne Airport at about 11:45 a.m. Tuesday with plans to land in Truckee, suffered heavy damage. There were reports of gusty winds at the time of the crash. The plane also “briefly” collided with a trailer housing a glider plane prior to crashing, according to the press release.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the incident.
