NID picks finance manager

The Nevada Irrigation District has announced the appointment of Marie G. Owens as the district’s new finance manager.

Owens, who comes to the area from Evergreen, Colo., assumes a key department head position on NID’s management staff. She will oversee financial planning and budgeting, accounting, customer service and cashiering.

Owens joined the district April 24, bringing considerable experience in financial management, accounting and auditing, with backgrounds in both the public and private sectors.

She has owned and operated her own financial consulting firm, served as financial manager for the Evergreen Metropolitan District and as senior auditor/accountant and interim director of accounting for Jefferson County, Colo.

Prior to joining NID she worked as a temporary comptroller for Nye County in Nevada. She holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Herbert H. Lehman College, City University of New York; and an MBA from the University of Montana. A licensed certified public accountant in both New York and Colorado, Owens plans to obtain a California license.

She succeeds longtime NID finance manager Tess Andrews, who retired.
