NID juggles August meetings for fair, Brown Act workshop

The Nevada Irrigation District’s Board of Directors has canceled both of its regularly scheduled meetings for the month of August. A special meeting has been scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Board members plan to attend the opening ceremonies for the Nevada County Fair Wednesday morning, and have canceled their regularly scheduled 9 a.m. Wednesday meeting due to time conflict, according to Board Secretary Kris Stepanian. The special meeting will take place that afternoon and will be open to the public.

An NID booth will be open at the fair for the duration of the event, which begins Wednesday and continues through Aug. 13.

Stepanian said the Aug. 23 meeting has been canceled so that board members can attend an “Understanding the Brown Act” workshop that day hosted by the California Special Districts Association at 9 a.m. in Oroville.

According to the Districts Association’s website, the three-hour workshop will cover “the ins and outs of the Brown Act,” including what constitutes a meeting, information on different types and manner of conducting meetings, agenda requirements, notice requirements, public participation and potential penalties for violating the act.

Board members are not required to attend the workshop, Stepanian said, but she expects that some will.
