News briefs: Rotary hosting Women of Worth benefit

Women of Worth began a few years ago when Sandy Schmidt wanted to help women like herself – escaping domestic violence and trying to put their lives back together.

WOW has grown, with support from around Nevada County. On Friday, the Nevada City Rotary Club will hold a benefit party and dance to further their work.

Party Hearty with Jimmy Acardi opens at 6:30 p.m. at Miners Foundry Cultural Center; Acardi and the Wildcats play their 1950s-style music from 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Elegant hors d’ouevres, beer and wine, door and raffle prizes and silent auction items will be offered.

Tickets are $20 in advance, $24 at the door, and they’re available at Nevada City Postal Co., at 228 Commercial St., and The Bookseller, at 107 Mill St., Grass Valley.
