n Local oaks not ailing – late freeze a leaf-killer

Foothill residents concerned about oak trees showing signs of sudden oak death this year needn’t be alarmed, say natural resource specialists. Leaves died prematurely because of late spring freezes on several native California oaks, including deciduous blue (Quercus douglasii), valley oak (Quercus lobata) and interior live oak (Quercus wislizeni), according to the UC Berkeley Cooperative Extension Office. It is estimated the trees will recover and produce a new crop of leaves next year, yet acorn production this fall is expected to be down.

n Friday 8:50 p.m. – A caller from South Church Street at Main Street reported a juvenile was stumbling all over the place and was almost hit by passing vehicles. Grass Valley police arrested a 24-year-old man on suspicion of public drunkenness.
