Free enclosed lockers for those biking to work

In an effort to improve air quality by bicycling to work, six enclosed bicycle lockers (pictured above) are available for people who work in downtown Grass Valley. “Now that gas is going up so high, hopefully people will take advantage of this,” said city planning director Tom Last. Northern Sierra Air Quality Management district supplied the grant for the project. Located at City Hall, the lockers provide protection from the elements and can be used at no cost, Last said. 75% of blueberry crops damaged by late freeze

The late April freeze that damaged fruit trees and wine grapes in the county also burn- ed about 75 percent of blueberry crops at Lazy Valley Ranch in Penn Valley. After June 5, owner Jeannie Gleason says she’ll have a better idea of how many berries she can sell from her 500-acre historic ranch this year. To reach the ranch, call 432-2234.
