New owners air expansion plans for mountain resort

TRUCKEE ” The new owners of the Homewood ski resort are taking the first steps in an expansion of the mountain resort.

The proposed expansion by JMA Ventures includes plans to add a hotel with up to 75 rooms, 56 condominiums, 12 workforce apartments and 25,000 square feet of retail space on the north side of the resort.

The south side could grow by up to 99 condominiums and 11 houses.

A meeting was held recently “to give the public and the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Advisory Planning Commission a chance to comment on the scope of the environmental analysis,” said David Tirman, executive vice president of JMA.

The San Francisco developer bought Homewood last summer, causing some locals to look forward to greater economic opportunities in the area and others to worry the resort they consider their best-kept secret would be spoiled.

Commissioners took no action, but offered their opinions on what the environmental review should include.

“There was a fair number of people from Homewood attending who expressed concern over the size of the proposal,” Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Spokesman Dennis Oliver said.
