New Nevada County grand jury seated for a year’s service

The 19 members of the Nevada County civil grand jury took their oaths for the 2007-’08 year in a ceremony Thursday at the courthouse in Nevada City.

Superior Court Judge Robert Tamietti, who presides over the grand jury, also thanked members of the outgoing group, whose most-noted report said in May that Nevada City’s clerk was “no longer performing the material duties” of her elected office.

The new jury includes five members who remained from the previous year, plus two alternates. One of the veteran members was sworn in as the foreman. They receive no pay for the volunteer post.

Superior Court Judges Albert Dover and Sean Dowling, who also is the new presiding judge for the court, attended the ceremony.
