New leader named for hospital

Katherine Medeiros has been named the new president for Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital in Grass Valley, according to a press release issued late Friday afternoon.

Medeiros currently is the interim chief executive officer at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto, a 392-bed facility almost three times the size of SNMH. She is also the CEO of a smaller facility, Doctors Hospital in Manteca.

Medeiros will start March 1 at SNMH, a 112-bed hospital in the Catholic Healthcare West system. She began as a nurse and worked her way into business and management through the years at the Manteca and Modesto hospitals.

The Nevada County hospital’s new leader replaces Tom Collier, who retired last Sept. 1 after 14 years at the helm. Medeiros is a member of Kiwanis and on the California Healthcare Association Governance Forum Advisory Board.

Medeiros has a master’s degree in business from Frederick Taylor University in Moraga and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Phoenix and California State University, Stanislaus. She and her husband, Tom Reuscher, have a son, Michael, who attends Pacific Union College in St. Helena. She enjoys, golf, distance speed walking and reading.

Medeiro could not be reached comment on this story.
