New juvenile hall to be dedicated

The Nevada County Board of Supervisors will dedicate the new Carl F. Bryan II Juvenile Hall Wednesday.

The keynote speaker will be the hall’s namesake, who describes the multimillion dollar building more as a collection of people, programs and opportunities than a facility for incarcerating juvenile offenders.

“This is not just a facility. It means we can keep our kids here in Nevada County … and offer quality programs that look beyond incarceration,” Bryan said. “These kids are at the beginning of their lives, and we want to make a difference in how they live when they go back into the community. This state-of-the-art building and its capacity will give us a chance.”

Wednesday’s dedication will include recognition of past and present decision-makers and supporters of the facility, an official ribbon-cutting ceremony, reception and tours. The public is invited to attend.

“It takes a great deal of political will to make a commitment of this magnitude,” said Supervisors Chairwoman Barbara Green. “I’m proud that the citizens of Nevada County will benefit for the next 50 years from the efforts of many, including the present Board of Supervisors, as well as others who came before us.”
