Nevada County votes for Sanders, though state goes to Clinton

Nevada County goes for Bernie

Nevada County voters strongly favored Bernie Sanders over Hillary Clinton in Tuesday’s Democratic presidential primary, though Clinton defeated Sanders statewide.

On the other side of the aisle, Republican Donald Trump dominated his party’s primary locally and across the state.

Sanders took 8,472 votes to Clinton’s 5,591 in Nevada County, or 59.8 to 39.5 percent. At least 6,000 local ballots haven’t been counted.

Clinton defeated Sanders statewide by 1,940,580 to 1,502,043 votes, or 55.8 to 43.2 percent.

Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee going into Tuesday’s election, took 7,628 votes in Nevada County, or 80.5 percent. He won 1,174,829 votes statewide, or 75.3 percent.

Tuesday’s primaries helped cement Clinton’s status as the presumptive Democratic nominee, setting the stage for a Clinton-Trump general election.
