Nevada County shows jobs gain

Nevada County’s unemployment rate declined 0.6 percent to 5.3 percent in February from the year-earlier period thanks to growth in the service and other sectors, according to the state Employment Development Department.

The county had 28,520 employed in February, an increase of 400 from January and 750 from a year-earlier, according to the state.

Food services and drinking establishments led the year-to-year gain with 240 new jobs, followed by construction (200) and finance and real estate (50), according to Mary Mahoney, a labor market consultant for the state.

Nevada County ranked 12th in lowest unemployment in the state, where the rate was 6.1 percent. Nationally, unemployment stood at 5.8 percent in February.
