Nevada County searching for new member to join marijuana community advisory group

Those with an agricultural background have until 5 p.m. Wednesday to apply for an open spot on Nevada County’s marijuana community advisory group.

The Board of Supervisors opted this week to open the application process after the resignation of panelist Matthew Shapero, who left for a job in Southern California. Supervisors want the new advisory board member to have an agricultural background, as Shapero does.

Applications are at the county’s Community Development Agency, 950 Maidu Ave., Nevada City, and at the county’s website: http://www.mynevadacounty.com, under the Community Development Agency tab.

Completed applications must be returned in person, by emailing them to ComDevAgency@co.nevada.ca.us or by faxing them to 530-265-9851. Officials will accept no applications after 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Supervisors intend to pick Shapero’s replacement at their July 25 meeting. The application indicates the new panelist could begin serving at that day’s advisory board meeting, scheduled hours after supervisors meet.

Four advisory group meetings remain, including the one on July 25.

Supervisors created the community advisory group, now at 15 members, to gather information and write recommendations for the county’s permanent cannabis grow ordinance. It likely will deliver those recommendations to supervisors around year’s end. Supervisors have said they want a new grow ordinance in place by March.
