Nevada County Republican Women to host essay contests

The Nevada County Republican Women Federated will sponsor two essay contests, one for eighth-graders and a second for 11th-graders, who attend school in western Nevada County.

For the eighth-grade Americanism Essay Contest, the winner will receive $100. The topic is, “If you could spend 5 minutes with Abraham Lincoln, what would you ask him, and why?”

The essay should be 500 words or less, double-spaced and typed or printed legibly.

A cover sheet should include full name, home address, phone number, parent contact information, name of school and teacher’s name.

The essay will be judged on originality, creativity, neatness, grammar, spelling and development of topic. It should have an introduction, discussion and conclusion.

For the 11th-grade contest, there will also be a cash award of $100 for the winner. The topic is, “Choose an individual, an event in American history, or something which has happened in your experience exemplifying the true and best meaning of Americanism.”

Essays should be between 200 and 300 words, double-spaced and typed or printed legibly. Include full name, address, home phone, school name and teacher’s name at the top of the page.

Winners will be announced the week of Oct. 28 and will be determined by the NCRWF Americanism Committee.
